Along the River
On both sides of the Rideau River and Canal, just beyond the Village, are examples of the stone “cottages”, built around the time of the Canal construction. Probably using the skilled stone masons, imported by Colonel By to construct his Canal (1826-1832) these handsomely proportioned and finely crafted homes were no doubt inspired by the English country cottages familiar to their owners.
